Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour (TURBT)

A Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour (TURBT) involves two procedures. A cystoscopy is initially performed where a doctor looks and examines the inside of the bladder and urethra (water pipe) using a fine telescopic instrument called a cystoscope. If a bladder tumour is found the tumour may then be removed through the urethra using telescopic instruments.

This is a common procedure used to treat superficial bladder tumour. It is usually done under anaesthetic. This may either be a spinal anaesthetic or a general anaesthetic and you may require a short stay in hospital after the procedure.
