The da Vinci Surgical System expands a doctor's human capabilities and allows routine and complex procedures to be performed minimally invasively. Via three integrated components, the surgeon controls the da Vinci robot from a surgeon console. The surgeons' hand movements are scaled down to perform tiny movements within the body. Optimised 3D vision, magnification and motion tremor control allow the surgeon to operate high-tech instrumentation with greater dexterity and precision.
The two definitively documented advantages to robotic surgery (and laparoscopic surgery) are decreased blood loss and faster recovery compared with open surgery.
